THE BANKS OF A LAKE THAT WAS REPAIRED BY KOPPERUÑCIṄKAN

We know that the banks of the lakes and ponds should be repaired immediately to save the water as well as the people from flood during rainy season. Such an incident is gleaned from an inscription of Kopperuñciṅkan, a latter pallava king of 13th CE from Varadarāja perumāḷ temple, Tribhuvanī near Pondhiecherry.

The inscription belongs to the reign of Avaṉi āḷappiṙantān Kopperuṅciṅkan who ruled during the second quarter of 13th CE. The inscription eulogies the king as the conqueror Karṇāṭaka and Āndhra kings. The record informs that the chief constructed a temple for Heramba gaṇapati on the banks of the tank at Tribhuvanamahādevi and he repaired the embankments, sluices and irrigation channels. The Tamil portion at the beginning too say the same thing. The inscription is published in the SII Vol 12 with the number 126.
