ANOTHER LAKE REPAIRING OF KOPPERUÑCIṄKA

We have already seen an inscription which states that Kopperuñciṅkan has rebuilt the sluices and channels of an lake at Tribhuvanai near Pondhicherry. Another inscription from Trivakkarai gives the details of another such incident that was accomplished by the same king.

The inscription refers the king as Kāḍavaṉ, Avaṉiyāḷappirantān, Sarvajña, Khaḍgamalla and Kṛpāṇamalla. It records the chief constructed a sluice and a feeder channel to the tank at Oḹukaṙai. The channel is also named as “Tribhuvana nṛpanātha”. Oḹukaṙai is also a village near Pondhicherry and was known as Kulottuṅgacoḹa Nallūr in inscription.

Kopperuñciṅkan who hold the titles as “Sakala Bhuvana Cakravarti” (emperor of all worlds), Kāḍavan (Descendent of pallava race), Sarvajña (omniscient), Khaḍgamalla (warrior with sword), constructed sluice and  feeder channel to the Olukaṙai lake.

To fill the tank at Oḹukūr the king who vowed to protect the earth made the channel with the name Tribhuvananātha with flowing water.

Thus another incident throws light on how our ancestors maintained the water resources.
